Dealer’s Life updated: version B:0.77

Hello Dealers!
We have just released the new 0.77 version with a lot of new features and improvements for all our players!

The first and the most important new feature is the integration with Google Play Games, which means… achievements!
We designed a first set of 30 achievements to cover most of your accomplishments in the game with the usual irony we want to include in our game, which of course means quotes from internet memes! What would an achievements set be without memes?? 🙂

Of course the achievement is on nine thousand dollars and not on ten thousand!

This integration is important because it also brings a whole set of new features we can implement in our game in the following release, the first and most important will be… cloud save. This will be our next step on this road in order to provide a way of keeping the Lite version save game after purchasing the Premium version. Then we will be able to implement global leaderboards which will allow players to compare their score and see how they are doing!
But for now, log in to Google Play Games with the automatic login feature when you open the game and enjoy the new achievements! Remember that you can always check your status and your achievements by tapping the new button in the upper left corner of the main menu and open the dedicated menu.

We also did a restyle of these buttons to keep the same style of the Google Play Games button (the third one)

Speaking about other changes included in this new version, we decided to balance reputation changes and add specific messages to inform the player everytime there is such a change. This means that it will be less easy to lose reputation (we also removed one hidden reputation loss we had implemented in the older version) and that the player will always see a message when there is a reputation change. If you want to have more information on this, you can check all the changes in the dedicated card on our Roadmap: Reputation mechanic balance and reputation change messages .

We also decided to buff the expert and give him the ability to give an estimate during a negotiation even when he’s on duty on an item. We felt this is a good balance change to improve his power as the need of having him available to be able to ask his opinion during negotiations was really harsh. We hope to have brought some more love on him, we have more plans for him and we think that our next buff will be to make him discover fakes (with a percentage of failing depending on the level) when you ask for his opinion during a negotiation.

Speaking about balance changes, we did some late game prices balance. For example the cost of purchasing a skill increment is now higher for a skill that is 5 or higher. And we also changed some victory condition thresholds but we let you discover on your own these changes. Generally speaking, this means that the game will be longer and you will enjoy for more time the late game.

Last but not least, we improved the overall speed of the game by removing the incremental writing style on balloons. This was a community requested feature and we decided to remove the incremental writing instead of providing a new option to turn it on or off, because this will allow us to improve the general quality of the text on the balloons and highlight or color part of the text.

Mix all these changes with some bug fixing (thanks to all our Beta testers!) and some italian localization improvements and you have the new 0.77 version!
We hope you like it, as always feel free to let us know your thoughts here, on our Public Roadmap or on Dealer’s Life Twitter, Facebook Page or Google+ Community.

And in the following release… the first set of recurring characters and their encounters! Yes, they are ready and we are testing them right now, we think that we will be able to release them in Beta during next week!

Oh, really?

And with this bombshell… Keep up the good deals and have a nice day!

Dealer’s Life featured in Google Play Indie Corner!

Almost two weeks have passed since we woke up in the morning and found out that Dealer’s Life was chosen by Google Play to be featured in the Indie Corner in the New Indie Highlights” collection.

Oh, wait… that’s our game!

It turned out by accident while I was browsing data about store positioning, I saw a big (which would become ever bigger) increase in daily downloads of Dealer’s Life Premium version and I immediately wondered why. So I went to check if we were featured on the Simulation category page in some new country but I saw a whole new set of “Featured Home” countries, which brings a huge difference in terms of visibility and audience.

This news struck me like a lightning, sure we had submitted our game a couple of months before but we had no news from Google and we simply thought that our request was tagged with a “yeah, sure” tag (probably in their immense data centers they have entire clusters of servers named “yeah_sure”), archived and left for good.
I shared the news with Fiz and we were so surprised that for a good half an hour we did nothing but celebrating with a huge feeling of accomplishment, sharing it on our social pages.

“New Indie Highligts”: congratulations to all other fellow indie developers too!

It’s true, it’s really a great accomplishment that comes after more than one year working on DL, our very first game and our first attempt in making people have fun with our ideas and our visions. It’s an accomplishment that encourages us to go ahead and joins the dozens of positive reviews that we have received. It’s new energy, it’s a morale boost, it’s an acknowledgment that someone in a huge corporation saw our game and said “Hey, that’s actually good!”.

Of course this is no golden pot but it’s helping our sales (which of course keep us *alive* and working on this wonderful path) and most of all our game visibility, because there is no worst thing for a game developer than an ignored game, drowned in a sea of “mainstream” games.
Speaking of choices, we are proud of having got so far by choosing a game design completely free of IAP even if the latter is the current standard for the mobile market and even if this can have hurt a bit our sales. I will surely dig deeper into this topic with an article because it’s something that needs to be addressed carefully but right now I can tell you that this is something that increases our sense of accomplishment, especially when we read reviews from people that celebrate this choice as one of their preferred aspects.

So, probably you are wondering “what now?”.
Well, now there are still a lot of things to do and we are still committed with all our hearts and our heads on improving even more Dealer’s Life.
Two days ago we released in Beta the new 0.76 version which includes, among other changes, Google Play Games integration and Achievements which will increase fun and surely will satisfy all the achievement hunters among our players. In the meanwhile we also reached the huge milestone of 100,000 downloads on Dealer’s Life Lite.
Then there will be the big change we talked about for the last three months: recurrent characters and encounters! The first set of encounters and dialogues (policeman, special agent, mafia guy, mafia boss, construction worker) is ready and we are testing them in those very days, hopefully we will be able to release them in Beta with the following release, meaning that from that moment our players will have to take their choices and accept their consequences

An Italian indie game has a mafia boss in it… seems legit!

And then there will be Google Play Games cloud save (so that players can continue on the Premium version the game they started on the Lite version), a new item pack (*SPOILER ALERT*: it will be geek themed!), German and Spanish localization and a lot of features requested on the Public Roadmap by our players.

Our players… the same people I would like to thank so much for having stayed with us on this journey, helping us with feedback, proposing new ideas or even simply telling us that they like our game.

Thank you very much to all Dealer’s Life players… and keep up the good deals!

Even our your customers now know that Dealer’s Life is now featured in Google Play Indie Corner!

Dealer’s Life updated: version B:0.70

Good morning Dealers!
We just released a new update on Dealer’s Life, bringing to all our players our new B:0.70 version!

This is a huge update, especially for all non-english speaking players!
We completed the development of the multi language structure in the game, meaning that now Dealer’s Life can be expanded with different languages!
italianLocalization2
The first language we decided to add is of course Italian, as it’s our native language and it was easy to translate back all the text of the game!
And what better day to release this update than on the Italian “Festa della Repubblica” day? 🇮🇹
So, starting from today, all our Italian players and friends will be able to play the game in Italian 🇮🇹, changing the game language by tapping on the flag in the main menu.
italianLocalization3
We know that this will be a great improvement for all Italian players and we also know that our work on localization does not end here!
Analyzing player nationality data we have planned to add German and Spanish, probably in this very order. And a few players have already offered to help us in translating the game text, which is really great because first of all it let us feel your love for the game ( 😍 ) and then, even with just a couple of hours of help per person, this can greatly speed up the work on the new translations! So, if you want to help with a few hours of your spare time, please get in touch with us!
Of course you can also tell us which language you would like to see next in Dealer’s Life! Make us hear your voice!

Speaking about changes in this release, we started a series of balance changes with victory goal changes. We heard your feedback and we know you want longer games (which could be abruptly ended by some encounters we are designing… oh wait, spoiler alert! 😀 ), so we started by making those thresholds higher which of course has a direct impact on the game length. And in the following updates we will add more shops and more player levels, which will fill the longer games with more things to do and more granularity in procedural generation (which is of course influenced by the player level).

Then, as usual, we added a lot of small game improvements like better tutorial tips, larger inventory buttons, bigger event windows, and some small bug fixing.

Starting from this release we also created an open Beta channel for Dealer’s Life premium version, so that also our most beloved players can play new updates before everyone else!

The process is really very simple, for more information we updated our article on the Open Beta access as well as the specific card on the Roadmap.
Of course you will be able to play the Beta without mandatory ads and also offline, as always for our premium version. So if you still have not gone premium, just do it today! 🙂

Last but not least, we completed the huge work on the gameplay video!

Pretty awesome, isn’t it? 😎

And that’s all for now, don’t forget to comment and let us know what you think!
Stay tuned and keep up the good deals!

Dealer’s Life updated: version B:0.65

Hello Dealers!
We just released a new update on Dealer’s Life, bringing our new version (B:0.65) to all our players!

The first addition is about a new job that some strange, dressed in black, guys have just brought in town… they call them “Brainwasher“!

Hey, that’s a brain washing machine!
Hey, that’s a brain washing machine!

They have this strange device that lets them reset your memory… and what better way to use it than dazing your soon to leave customers?

This renders the “brainwash” option a core mechanic of our game, linked to the employee and his level rather than a single extra possibility given to the player sometimes. And it’s for this reason that we made two big changes: the ad you will see can now be skipped and of course it has been removed from our Premium version!

Speaking about ads, we always listen to our players and, even if I’d like to remember that our Lite version is free thanks to those very ads, we decided to remove the ad shown when hiring a new employee!
That means that there are going to be a lot less ads in this version! But if you dislike ads and if you’d like to support us (and probably have some bonus and exclusive content in the near future, we are discussing about that right in these days!), consider buying our Premium version!

Regarding balance, in this update we also decided to increase the help you get when you run out of cash, so that it will be more difficult to lose a game, and to slightly increase the number of employee slots in higher level shops, given that there are more types of employee available.

Also, we had some reports of device heating, we investigated and linked them to some performance issues caused by our recent addition of in-game shadows and outlines to a lot of graphic elements. With this update we moved those graphical improvements to the sprites and the images included in the game, so your device will have a “lighter” effort running our game, improving performance and reducing heating. Please tell us if you notice any further issue on this topic.

And last, but not least, we have a wonderful new set of screenshots!

So, Dealers, what’s next now?
Well, as we said in our last post we are currently in the design phase of our next huge task which is bringing to (Dealer’s) life one of our core gameplay mechanic: quests and storylines. We have planned this since the beginning as Dealer’s Life was born with this great idea in mind of mixing stories and consequences into the everyday life of a pawn shop owner. Which is also a tribute to one of our biggest inspiration: “Papers, Please, created by Lucas Pope. And if you are reading Lucas, those are all for you: 👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘 !
This is really huge and it will take us a lot of days before it will be completed (the design is huge, let alone the whole development process), in the meanwhile we are working on a lot of things (as usual), you can check them all on our roadmap, here is a summary: a gameplay video for YouTube (which is currently in its early development/editing phase), a new items pack (a sneak peek will be released on the roadmap very soon!), the design of the new “advertising agent” employee and the development of the “lock” button in inventory.

That’s all for now, don’t forget to comment and let us know what you think!

Join our open Beta!

Welcome back Dealers!

Today we announce that Dealer’s Life Beta is now open to everyone, meaning that you can join and try our updates before everyone else!

On top of this, we just released a new Beta update (B:0.63) with our most recent changes that’s available right now to every Beta tester.

If you want to join, the process is very simple: head to Google Play Dealer’s Life Beta page or Dealer’s Life Lite Beta page and agree to become a tester! From that moment on you will be registered as a Beta tester and you will always receive our Beta releases!

We decided to change from closed Beta to open Beta because the number of players is growing fast and we would like to implement a more robust release flow, having as much feedback as possible. Furthermore, a lot of players have asked us to be able to try as soon as possible our new changes and the open Beta will be a very pleasant surprise for them. 🎁

The standard release flow will be on a weekly or biweekly basis, depending on complexity and volume of changes, and it will be:

  1. A closed Alpha only for us developers where we test our changes thoroughly (same as always).
  2. The new version is promoted to the open Beta channel and release notes are available:
    • In the “What’s new” section of Dealer’s Life Google Play Store page.
    • In the dedicated list on our Public Roadmap (where you can always check our progress, even before releases).

The 🚀 means “In development” and the 👍 means “In Beta”!
  3. You, the Beta testers, can try every new change for a range of days that depends on the complexity and the urgency of the release (let’s say from one day to three or four days) and you will be able to write us your feedback and your advices.
You will be able to do that on three possible channels:
  • The “Beta Feedback” form (accessible in Dealer’s Life Google Play Store page only from your device) will be your quick and easy way to contact us with a feedback or a suggestion. Remember that this form replaces the “Review” form so you will be able to send a private message to us but you won’t be able to rate and review our game unless you leave the Beta program.
  • The “Requests or Feedback” card on our Public Roadmap if you think that the issue should be publicly discussed or if the topic is too complex for a short message.
  • Our social pages (Twitter, Facebook or Google+ Community) if you prefer to contact us on one of these channels.
  • [optional] In cases such as bug fixing or quick updates, the flow could go back to point #1, with an updated release which will be available only to Beta tester.
  • When we see that the new version is ok and stable on multiple devices, we will promote it to Production and it will be available every player.

That’s all for now, we hope that you like this new opportunity, don’t forget to comment and let us know what you think!

Dealer’s Life updated: version B:0.62

Welcome back Dealers!

We just released an update for Dealer’s Life, bringing this new version (B:0.62) to all our players!
Now, let’s talk about the changes, shall we?

First of all, we introduced a graphical preview in some newspaper articles which shows you who you are going to hire and what you are going to rent. This now looks a lot more real and it’s also more pleasant to the eyes.
Here are two examples, directly from our public roadmap where we posted a preview some days ago:

Hi Ronnie, now I can see your resume picture!
That’s a nice emporium! I’ll rent it!

We also fixed a rare bug which, in specific cases, froze the “Not interested” button, preventing the player to be able to dismiss that customer. This means there will be no more awkward situations with your customers, where you try to dismiss them but they want to stay in your pawn shop. 😉
With this fix we also worked on avoiding double taps on a lot of buttons, in order to prevent double purchases or duplicate actions: we are still working on this but the most part of it is completed and included in this release.

Last, but not least, we improved the game flow after an ad has been shown, meaning that you now see the following windows and actions only after you have seen the ad and not partially before, when loading the ad.

And that’s all for now! But definitively that’s not all for these days because we are about to announce another big change… anyone said “Open Beta“?
We’ll talk about it in the following hours with a dedicated article and instruction on how to participate!

Thank you Dealers and see you soon!

Dealer’s Life updated: version B:0.57

Hi everybody!

We just released another big update of Dealer’s Life, bringing this new patch (B:0.57) on both lite version and premium version!

First of all we decided to address the issue with the connectivity to the ads server: we apologize for this issue, in these days we were constantly in touch with the ads provider and we found an issue on their side that was affecting the game flow. In this update we released a first fix that solves it and makes the game flow less dependent from the ad server. As a token of gratitude, Dealer’s Life premium version players will also be able to get some rewards even when there are no ads available.

Then, thanks to player feedback, we decided to do some balance changes on victory conditions, meaning that now some winning thresholds are higher and hence more difficult to reach. You’d like to know what and how much we changed, wouldn’t you? Unfortunately that’s up to you to discover! 🙂
We’ll surely make other rounds of balance changes in the following patches, so if you have anything to suggest us, head to our roadmap and make yourself heard!

And when you win a game? Well, now there is the brand new “infinite mode“!

I am sure that you will recognize it without any doubt because of the special “continue” button:

Which is of course a tribute to one of the pillars of my entire gaming life!
(Hi Sid! 😀 please be aware that I admire you with all my heart!)

We also fixed some bugs, first among all a bug regarding volume on some sound effects which was not affected by the level set in the option menu.

That’s all for this patch, we hope that you like these changes and we look forward to your comments and feedback on our roadmap !

Dealer’s Life updated: version B:0.51

Hi there!
We just released another update for Dealer’s Life following player feedback and some new ideas.

First of all, Dealer’s Life has now a public roadmap!

roadmap
Hey, that’s a bug!

We decided to create this board in order to keep Dealer’s Life players updated on our tasks and to provide a single entry point for bug reports and feature requests. There is a list for feature request with a specific form to sumbit, a list for bug report with another form, a list for short, mid and long term tasks to keep track of what we are going to do next and last, but not least, there are lists for every release with the current status update.
The board is public and everyone can join, comment and even vote on their favourite or most important task, so… what are you waiting for? Join and let us hear your voice!

You can find the link for the public roadmap also in another addition to our game: our new welcome screen!

welcomescreen
Hey, that’s a disclaimer!

We thought that it’s important to let Dealer’s Life players know that the game is still in development and that we have a lot of ideas and new content that will be implemented, along with links to be able to find what’s is in our plans (the roadmap but also our social pages). In our opinion this new welcome screen is the right place to tell them those things!

Speaking of right places, in this update we also added new tutorial tips in order to provide hints during important steps of the game.

tutorialtip
Hey, that’s a tip!

They are shown only one time in each game session and in each specific zone and they can be disabled in the options menu. We really felt this was necessary to help players at their first experience with the game and we think that now the experience is much smoother.

And, again, right places! We now have a brand new “X to close” button on all windows and popups in our game.

Speaking about balance changes, we did a minor change to help avoid very unlucky situations where the most valuable item, assigned to an employee, was lost due to an event. With this release the items assigned to an employee can not be targeted by events!

And then there are the usual minor graphic enhancements and bug fixing, although I must remind you that the last release (0.50) was one of our biggest achievements in terms of game optimization: 90% less of used RAM for audio sources and 66% less for textures!

So, that’s all about Dealer’s Life latest update! Don’t forget to try the game and tell us what you think!

Stay tuned!

Dealer’s Life updated: version B:0.42

Hi everybody!
Last week we released another update for Dealer’s Life following a lot of player feedback and proposals.

First of all, another negotiation UI revamp!

maingame_05

A better button disposition with price controls near the right border, both reachable by your right thumb, editable price (with Android keyboard) and a new blackboard (different on more luxurious shops) with all trade information.
This could be the final version of Dealer’s Life negotiation UI, we really like it and first feedback messages are very positive! What do you think?

Then we did another balance pass, as it’s very important with procedural content generation. We modified three main aspects of the game:

  • Charisma, one of the player skills, is now a bit less powerful, this should make late game negotiations more challenging.
  • Greed, one of the customers’ skills, is now more important during negotiation. That means that a greedy customer will try to shift the negotiation to his side in a more pronounced way and, on the other hand, a generous customer will be more open to make less money with your deal. This makes insight and competence, other player skills, a bit more powerful as it’s more important to predict customer behaviour and to estimate prices correctly.
  • We balanced employees cost, both active and passive, and now the low level ones are definitively cheaper.

Regarding active employees, they now have more detailed dialogues at the end of their tasks.

Speaking about dialogues, we dramatically increased customer dialogue repertory and added more combinations, so that they will have a lot of different and funny opening sentences when they meet you.

dialogue_new

So, that’s all about Dealer’s Life latest update!
Don’t forget that these are the last days you can freely enter our Closed Beta and try the game, all you have to do is submit this form using the email of your Android account.

Stay tuned!

Dealer’s Life updated: version B:0.41

Hi everybody!
We just released another big update with the sum of all our work during those holidays (apparently, not for us 😛 ).

First of all, don’t forget that in these days you can freely enter our Closed Beta and try the game, all you have to do is submit this form using the email of your Android account.

Now let’s talk about this new Dealer’s Life version!

Women! Our beloved colorful and fashionable counterpart!

womenrocket
Hi, I am Pearl and I want this decorated rocket launcher!

So from now on you will also welcome female customers and, as you can see, they definitively know what they want!

Speaking about appearances, we also introduced two big changes:

  • Physique randomization! Don’t be surprised if you see a very tall and thin man who wants to buy your new military uniform, it’s one size fits all.
  • Better walking animation with a little touch of inclination.

walkinganimation_2

As you can see we also did another polishing run on the main UI: your game information are now in a smaller box on the upper right side of the screen, the options button (now fully implemented!) is integrated on your table on the left side near the notebook, the negotiation controller has one less button which means that you can control the flow of the negotiation with only the price and the “accept” or “refuse” buttons.

We always keep an eye on balance and this time we addressed feedback we received regarding events: we did some major tweaks on events and negative events generation so that in an average game there will be much less impact from them, especially from the most terrible of them.

We also finally implemented the game credits screen to give the right credit to the wonderful creators of Dealer’s Life music and sound effects and to all our friend that have played the very early versions of the game.

We also created a Google+ Community so that users who prefer this social can join and contact us with feedback and ideas while we keep them updated with our news!

So, that’s all for this update, stay tuned and don’t forget to follow and tell us what you think about the game!
